Specialisation

Specialisation (Age 14-17)

Athletes training at the club in this group will receive technical training on either sprints, jumps or endurance.  At this stage we can direct a young athlete to a qualified throws coach but we are not in a position to deliver. The athlete usually enters this group at around 14 years old. They will usually be still participating in another sport.  Juggling the two sports at this level can be a bit of a challenge but it is one the coaches are always very happy to accommodate.  This is very much an athlete centered club, who are very sensitive to the possible pathways open to the developing athlete. Speed is a commodity that hits top of the agenda with coaches in most team sports. The team sport coaches will regard an athlete with speed as a prize commodity.  It is quite the norm for athletes in the early years to be involved in another sport at District or indeed National level.  It is our job as coach to communicate with other coaches involved with the other sport to make sure we get the balance right.
