Performance

Performance (Age 17+)

Track and field with all the disciplines that come under the banner is considered to be a late development sport.  The performance phase is that delayed process where we start to introduce a much more challenging training and lifestyle programme.  This stage is only suited to athletes who have physically matured and are ready mentally.  Performance at club level means that we do not rely entirely on talent and we are ready to challenge the athlete with tougher sessions on the track and with increased loading in the gym. We are looking for much more in terms of strength, speed, endurance and commitment.  The improvements will be directly related to how much time and effort is applied to all of these.  There will be lifestyle sacrifices, a much greater awareness of nutrition and greater all round self awareness including taking full responsibility for all that happens around them.  Results will be an upshot of commitment from the athlete.  This is a culmination of all the years that has preceded them since the journey began with the run jump throw group.  As we build up a much more detailed picture of the individual athlete using athlete profile to plot their strengths and areas of weakness, the athlete will be more involved in goal setting with long and short term targets.
